Extremely belated I know, but I figured that I should probably recap the last couple of cons and events before I make a post about San Diego Comic Con 2010... so here we go!
Anime Boston 2010
April 2nd - 4th

So despite the fact that I wouldn't consider myself an full-out anime/manga fan per se, Anime Boston has been a convention that I've attended over the past several years mostly due to the fact that not only is it the biggest local convention, it's also more of a social con for me and my friends. I've had lots of ups and downs with this convention in particular, from a growing disinterest in anime/manga, to the absurd line problems of 2008, to poor choices in company, and to my general intolerance of people who don't seem to know how to play Marco Polo correctly. But I digress - Anime Boston always ends up being a pretty fun time.
This year, AK actually wasn't able to attend Anime Boston with me, so instead my boyfriend, Andrew [who still needs a cool villainous moniker, preferably derivative of either an Elvis Costello song or a weapon] accompanied me to his first anime convention. I originally planned to make 5 costumes [3 for me, and 2 for AK], but since plans were jumbled somewhat last minute, I decided to scrap my plans altogether and since Andrew was going to wear his infamous Nightwing costume again, I decided to recreate Bryan Lee O'Malley's Batgirl design from the Batgirl meme from a few years ago:
I'd like to get better detail shots of my costume in the future [note: not taken in the convention bathroom mirrors], but I was pretty happy with the costume overall, especially for a last-minute, first attempt at a Batgirl costume. What I loved about this particular redesign by O'Malley was the minimalist mod take on Barbara Gordon; it almost looks like something that already exists in my wardrobe of shift dresses [and I guess, now it does!]. Once I get some better detail shots of my costume, I'll make a separate post on the construction of this costume. On that note, once I have some down time, I will make separate entries showcasing each costume I've created thus far.
- The Bat-mask, Bat-cape, shift dress, and the trompe l'oeil utility belt were handmade.
- The over-the-elbow gloves and yellow tights were purchased at Dorothy's Boutique in Boston.
- The black combat boots were purchased from Bodyline.
I also made silver escrima sticks to complete Andrew's Nightwing costume. I created them out of a 1" diameter wooden dowel that sawed and spraypainted silver. Ta-da! Now he can better protect me from mouth-breathers when I'm all out of Batarangs [note to self: I need more Batarangs.].I also wore my Snorlax dress on Friday [Day 1]:
I hadn't realized that there was a Pokemon meet-up and totally missed out on the photoshoot, but regardless it was fun wearing my Snorlax dress again [plus, some people recognized me from Lookbook!]. Likewise, I'll make a proper post showcasing my Snorlax dress as well; for now, feel free to get some more details on my dress on my DeviantArt. On a side note, Andrew got plenty of photos taken of his Bizarro shirt, oddly enough. On a further side note, he wasn't cosplaying - he just always kind of looks like Clark Kent.
As for the con itself, it was fun for the most part - there were some occasional lulls and we spent most of the time walking around the halls and dealers' rooms, but we met up with our friends and met some really awesome people in Artists' Alley, where picked up some awesome pins and prints:
[prints from imacoyfish]I usually try to take photos of my favorite cosplayers at every convention I go to, however, it's always a tad bit difficult to photograph when you're wearing spandex gloves. I did manage to snap photos of two of my favorite cosplay groups of the entire convention:

Since I've already come to terms with the fact that I will be attending Anime Boston in 2011, I've decided to actually whip up some anime costumes next year. I think that Andrew, AK, and I could TOTES pull off some sweet Naruto digs.**... kidding.
